Commitment to achieving Net Zero

Caremed Alrick (UK) Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

Baseline Year: 2023

Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.

Baseline emissions are calculated from our premises at Port Stanley House, Coventry, which we moved from in March 2024, to a new unit in Atherstone. At Port Stanley House, the building was shared with another occupier who held the main lease. As such, we were sub-letting as an minority occupier, with little influence over the whole building from a carbon emissions perspective. Moving to our own industrial unit has therefore given us control, as the sole occupant, over our carbon emissions. The other significant change to note which is shown in the overall reduction in emissions is the transition from imported lines to UK manufacturing -represented by a reduction in overseas freight. Other changes notable are the use of our own transport for an increasing number of deliveries, in order to improve and personalise further, our service.

Emissions reduction targets

As the business at Caremed Alrick UK Ltd is in a growth phase as we expand our products and services to the NHS and wider care sector, this target is proving difficult to formulate; we do however to plan to enlist the help of a suitable consultancy in order to receive guidance on achieving reduction in emissions, per business unit of staff member headcount.

We are willing to share results of projected vs actual when this strategy has been formulated.

Carbon Reduction Projects

Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives

The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2023 baseline. The carbon emission reduction achieved by these schemes equate to 13.62 tCO2e, a 21%ge reduction against the 2023 baseline and the measures will be in effect when performing the contract.

Since 2020, we have been on a journey to transition from importation (as part of our supply) to own manufacturing here in the UK. This has lead to a steady reduction in airmiles (and thereby emissions) as well as increasing local jobs. This is a trend we are committed to continue as we invest in our own manufacturing facility, supporting local manufacturers who offer additional support and supporting our local community.

Additional measures that are already in place:

  • Encouraging the use of train travel where practical, for sales, service and customer service teams
  • Offering quality video training to clients to reduce travel
  • A gradual transition from diesel to hybrid vehicles
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Car sharing club
  • Flexibility to work from home (hybrid working)
  • We actively promote a trade in scheme to our customers, and a significant number of equipment pieces from NHS hospitals have been prevented from scrappage and / or landfill, and repurposed. At the same time, hospitals who would previously have scrapped this equipment have experienced a cost saving incentivised by an environmental and sustainability benefit
  • Moving from LPG powered forklifts to battery powered forklifts

In the future we hope to implement further measures such as:

  • The move to fully electric vehicles. We are currently making arrangements to install charger points at our offices, for staff and business vehicles to access and make this initiative easy to implement
  • Expanding our equipment recycling scheme to widen the scope of benefit to the NHS
  • LED lighting in the warehouse
